I think your doctor has some valid points–diet does play a role in
this–what has worked for me is staying away from all dairy products and
alcohol
Not sure about the stress and exercise–neither of these makes my condition
worse.

First, anybody (including your doctor) who claims to have any
knowledge of what CAUSES sebderm is not a valid source of wisdom.
Everybody here has tried a variety of ways to monitor and correct
their health, but the nasty part of sebderm is that it isn’t an
instant cause-reaction allergy like condition.
Second, exposure to the sun is a short term CATALYST to increased
problems later, I think everybody can relate to feeling great when
they get their first sun of the summer(partially because it hides the
redness and scaly patches) , then notice that they have a flareup in
about two to 3 weeks. That flareup is partially caused by the sun,
and the other part is probably b/c you aren’t on vacation anymore
He is correct about the food/stress/exercise, but have you looked at
the sugar content of most foods nowadays? Aside from going completely
granola, you can’t avoid some flareup, you can only treat it, not
cure it.
I am not a wannabe doctor, and I don’t charge anybody an hour’s rate
for 20 mins. of my time

You are very right, the true cause of Seborrheic Dermatitis, and for
that matter most ailments are not "scientificly" known.
What does science really know? Take the bumblebee, according to all
known laws of aerodynamics it should not be able to fly, it doesn’t
care about the ignorance of science, it flies anyway.
It would be a mistake to wait for science. Scientists are people,
with jobs, and whom day they work for? Walk into a Pharmacy; read
the labels, you will get the answer.
Medicine is not focused on the cause but rather treating the symptoms
disease. A headache is not caused by lack of aspirin; Seborrheic
Dermatitis is not cause by a lack of medicated shampoo’s, steroid
creams, lotions or potions.
Multinationals don’t have their scientific staff working hard
searching for a cure so they can lose billions on other products, and
repeat business. The answers are out there but who is looking?
Wether you feel healthy or not, Seborrheic Dermatitis is always
indicative of an underlining desease. Here are a few of the more
well documented cases.
At some time most patients with AIDS – an immune disease – will
suffer for Seborrheic Dermatitis. Parkinson’s disease patients also
tend to be effected by Seborrheic Dermatitis; a lowered immune system
is a characteristic of latter stages of disease.
Consider yourselves lucky. Consider it an early warning sign. There
is an entire Ocean of nasty diseases that a person with a low immune
system can fall pray to. Cancer – another immune diseases - is found
in much higher rates in people with Seborrheic Dermatitis, a very
scary example.
Most of these chemicals you put on you face – prescribed by a Doctor
or not – do cause permanent damage, steroid creams, with long term
use will cause atrophy of the skin and may cause stretch marks.
Its understandable, you want to get rid of what you see, but
disconnecting you check engine light won’t solve your car problems.
There is a good reason this is a chronic disease, as your immune
system goes so does your Seborrheic Dermatitis. I could probably
write ten pages on how to boost your immune system, but I get the
sense I am being long wind and it’s not very "sexy".

Well said (or written)! I honestly belive you should look
into "alternative" medicine in order to "cure" your condition. Who
knows, maybe we do lack a whole range of important vitamins and
minerals. Have any of you heard of Dr. Joel Wallach? I’d suggest a
visit to his home page at www.wallachlive.com, very interesting stuff!
