If anyone has problems with washing your face try
Tolerin cleaser by La Roche-Posay. You can get it on the web
for aboout $14.
I have tried a zillion cleansers and this is the only
one I tolerate. You can see more posts about this cleaser on the
rosacea web site.

in november last year, i had a terrible bout with blood pressure…
they thought i was gonna stroke… i was freakin’… near in a panic
attack stage…

anyway, its all controlled now and ok, however, i’ve been bothered
with redness on my face, like a sunburn… one doc said it was
rosacia, and prescribed meds… only made it worse… another says
seborrheic dermatitis… prescribed nazoral and loprox gel…

it comes and goes…

i would like to blame this on the blood pressure medication… as
that’s when it all started… i’m taking toprol xl, atacand, and a
diamethi-something or other diuretic… (forgot the name)…

Birth control pill and seb.derm

Please get your facts right. There is no post from
me that puts any value on B5 in controlling my
seb.serm.

Help please

Hi Becky.
When you shampoo with Nizoral dont be afraid to be aggressive.
Use your nails and scrub until it nearly hurts.I find Selsun
shampoo much more effective than Nizoral but it is good to
alternate between different antifungal shampoos every few weeks.
I use Nizoral for a few weeks and then change to selsun for a
few weeks.I shampoo every other day with these and in between
I use an antidandruff shampoo and I apply the same aggressive
way and leave in for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing.Selsun also
have a stronger brand with 2.5% selenium sulphide which can be
used from time to time. Some studys have shown selenium sulphide
to be more effective than ketoconazole because as well as killing
the fungus it slows down the turnover of dead skin. But like most
medications they can loose their benefits if overused so it is
good to alternate.

Help, Please

Sunday, February 23rd, 2003

I have gotten my face under good control, but my hair is awful.
I have been using Nizoral for 3 weeks and have yet to see an
improvement. I wash my hair every other day. Even after I step
out of the shower I have flakes everywhere. AUGH! I got dressed
in the dark today and grabed the wrong shirt. I will be wearing
balck all day. HELP PLEASE. If you have any ideas. I did start
taking a B complex 3 or 4 days ago. Thanks

Birth control pill and seb derm

Saturday, February 22nd, 2003

Contolling oil production in the skin is
a small part of helping seb derm. The cure
for seb derm will come when researchers can
understand why people with dandruff and seb
derm have such a fast turnover of skin cells.
Normal skin keratinisation is 28 days.People
that suffer from dandruff alone are 16 days.
And people with seb derm are between 8 and 10
days.Such a short lifespan of skin cells makes
it difficult for the dead skin at the surface to
break away from the newer skin underneath.

B6

Wednesday, February 19th, 2003

I take 50mg of GNC brand vitamin B6 per day.
I almost have no flakes in my scalp now after starting B6. I did not
change my shampoo. I do not use dandruff shampoo. I have used
Anasazi Thermo-tection shampoo for past 6 months since i started
coloring my hair.
My facial skin is improved - less flakes and redness but I think
this is mostly due to protopic.
I also take a prescription vitamin called nicomide presribed by my
derm for rosacea/acne. It contains nicotinamide (B6 derivative I
think) folic acid and zinc. This combination I don’t think made a
significant difference in the seb derm. It was hard to tell because
when I started it I was in the middle of photoderm treatments.

Do not take antibiotics

Wednesday, February 19th, 2003

I have not cured my seb derm but I have cleared
my skin totally.I shampoo every day with selsun
and I do not put it on my face.I take 4gms of
pantothenic acid every day.I also take acidipholis
(2 capsules)every day.But the biggest help to my
seb derm and rosacea was my diet. This is a major
sacrifice and lifestyle change but it has helped me
big time.No sugar,dairy,wheat and alcohol.I know that
a lot of people on this board are using antibiotics
to help acne rosacea but it can be very difficult to
treat seb derm while on these drugs.Antibiotics may
be one of the biggest contributary factors to seb derm
and in some cases can cause the condition.

I started taking B6 on advice of this board. It is helping
tremendously. With the protopic and B6 I have different skin and
scalp.
