Hello from Elaine

Saturday, January 4th, 2003

I’ve had this condition for years. My son has it so does my father.
It runs in families. It is very annoying and seems to be tied it with
hormones ie. erupts once a month. Selsun Blue is my treatment right
now. Elaine :-)

Introducing myself

Saturday, January 4th, 2003

Tim, good idea - here goes…

I’m 22 years old and have had seb derm since 2-3 years back. I got it
from my father, who claims he can keep it under control by not eating
anything that contains milk or cheese. I’ve tried that for the last
couple of weeks, I really can’t tell if it had had any good effect
yet. It hasn’t gotten worse at least, that’s always something, I
guess.. I remember the "good old days" when your skin wasn’t an
issue, you could do anything without having to worry about how your
skin looks. I find myself going in and out to the restroom at work,
checking my face for flakes or anything like that. The dandruff is
99% gone, it isn’t an issue anymore, my biggest problem is redness on
the nosewings and forehead, if I just could find a way to reduce the
redness I’d be more or less back to "normal"… I have rather oily
skin too, which isn’t the best combination.

Welcome New Members!

Friday, January 3rd, 2003

Welcome to all the new members of the sebderm list. Please feel free
to ask questions and offer advice to others. So that we can all get
to know each other better, perhaps we should all post a message
introducing ourselves. You can give as much info about yourself as
you like, but please try to include how long you have had seb derm,
how you are currently treating it, and how things are going for you.
Again, welcome to the list!
Tim

Nizoral

cost about $10 a bottle at Walmart, $4 more than Selsen Blue.
Is it really worth it?

I’d like to subscribe to the seb derm list as I suffer from this as well as
rosacea.

Let’s Get the Ball Rolling . . . Shampoo Suds See

Thursday, January 2nd, 2003

I’ve been dealing with seb derm for 6 years now. Treatments like
Nizoral and Klaron have worked in the past, but they became less
effective as time wore on. What worked very well for me the past 8
months was Head and Shoulders - Intensive Treatment shampoo with
selenium sulfide. At night I washed my face with water and shampoo
and left the suds on my face for a minute or so. Then I washed it
off, dried my face, and went to bed. I did this 3-5 nights a week and
my skin wasn’t flaky, dry, shiny, or as red. I first heard about it
on the rosacea list and the guy advised only using it for one month,
then switching to a different shampoo. But I thought as long as it
was working, why switch? It was working great for me up until about
two weeks ago, but then I started seeing more redness and oiliness on
my face. So, two weeks ago I switched to regular Head and Shoulders
with zinc. It’s probably too early to tell, but it seems to be
working okay. It’s a little more drying, so I use Banana Boat Face

much needed help

Wednesday, January 1st, 2003

This group will be great once we get more members and can share
suggestions and ‘cures’. Selsun Blue shampoo works best for me. I
wash my face with it too. Anybody else have a product that might help
us? Elaine :-)

First message!

I’m not sure who started this group, but I think it’s a great idea.
There is a lot of info about seb derm on the rosacea support group,
but I think it’s helpful to have a site devoted to seb derm because
although rosacea and seb derm often occur together, not everyone with
seb derm has rosacea.
Personally, I’ve been dealing with seb derm for the past 6 years.
I’ve tried many treatments, some which have worked for months, some
which haven’t worked at all. I also know that apart from being a
physical issue, dealing with this can also be a mental health issue.
I think these groups are a great place to research treatments, but
also a great place to give and receive support from fellow group
members.
I’m always willing to discuss this stuff with other members, so feel
free to email me on the list or to my address.
Thanks.
