Perioral dermatitis

I have been starting to wonder if some of us that have been diagnosed
with seb derm particularly with areas around the lips and nose may
actually have perioral dermatitis.

Seems like I have two separate things going on around and above the
lip area. I truly believe that last year I had seb derm, but
occasionally I have this breakout above my lip that is basically red,
tight (dry feeling), and bubbly (bubbly is a big part of this).
After looking into perioral dermatitis, I’ve realized that this
current breakout started after using a new Tartar control toothpaste
and a mint, whitening floss. So, I stopped using both and things
seem to be clearing up.

But, this really got me thinking that for those people that
supposedly have seb derm above the lip and below the nose or around

the lip area maybe some of this is being misdiagnosed????

They seem really similar and rosacea, seb derm, and perioral
dermatitis seem to be connected.

My other thought is how in the world did I go through 29 years of my
life with no skin worries at all, then suddenly everything being put
in my mouth, digested, or applied to the skin is suddenly affecting
my face so completely.

I know a lot of you can understand where I am coming from. I want to
get back to those days where the biggest facial worry was the one
occasional big old zit.

I would love to hear from you guys on the perioral dermatitis and any
knowledge or experience you have with it.

Best regards,

Amy

P.S. This breakout is not seb derm — the Protopic has worked great
and continues to control the seb derm; however, I do not see that the
Protopic has had any obvious healing effect on what I believe is
perioral dermatitis. I also don’t think Protopic is the cause nor
that it is aggravating this condition. I didn’t want to scare you
Protopic folks out there.

I’ve got a flare of this stuff again and I am looking for a girl that helped me last year.  I can’t remember her name so if you are out there, e-mail me.

(I’m having problems remembering how I treated it last year and I followed some of your advice after a visit to my derm!)
