Hello — Protopic user here
I’m still using Protopic and still happy; however, the approach of
the cold season and the year anniversary of my first flares with
rosacea and sebderm has got me tense. Guess we will see if Protopic
and Metrocream can get me through another winter.
For those of you that have seb derm of the scalp, my boyfriend has it
and was given a rx for Capex shampoo. He has been using it for a few
weeks and he thinks it is really great. It has really cut down on
his itching and flaking. He also has seb derm of the eyelids, but he
hasn’t bothered to treat it. He basically cannot imagine putting the
time, money and energy that I have put into attempting to make my
face appear "normal." Ah — to be a carefree person like him. I
wonder what it would really be like to not give a damn about your
appearance or what people think. Now, someone should bottled that
attitude and sell it.
Best of luck to everyone.
Amy
P.S. My derm gave me a handful of samples of Protopic last year –
and with only one application per day, I still haven’t filled a rx
for it. So, go to your derm and get some samples.

Hi
I wonder if you wouldn`t mind if I asked you a few questions:
I am 29 and have suffered with seb derm for many years, the usual steroid creams were prescribed but this has in turn lead to steroid rosacea.
I now just use a moisturiser (Linda Sy) and have had 3 photoderm treatments which seemed to help but my seb derm disguises any progress.
I have seen the complimentary advice regarding Protopic and wonder if you could tell me if this is as good as it sounds?
I am from the UK and can`t get Protopic here yet so I have ordered from USmedicine.com at a cost of over $120..
I just wondered if this was a good investment?
Thanks for your time

Everyone swears by it but I find it a little hard to spread as an all over
solution to the seb derm. I suffer from it as an all over dryness. Its not
just concentrated in one spot as many of us have it. I did have an area
above my lip that was very dry all of a sudden and it worked miracles. It
can be pore clogging as well so I dont want to use it all over. It has the
consistency of vasaline. $120 is a huge investment. I hope you can return
it if you dont like it. I’m going to my derm tomorrow and she gives me tons
of samples. One of which is protopic. I would be happy to send it to you so
you can try. We should stick together. It would be nice if others shared
their samples as well. Something to consider.

I can only speak of my experience with Protopic, but it was a miracle ointment. I am not exaggerating when I say that after my first application the dryness and flakiness was gone. I wish you could’ve just gotten your hands on some samples as my samples have lasted me almost a year. I have yet to buy a tube.
I think you are definitely going to be happy with Protopic. You may experience a little redness and heat sensitivity at first, but that will vanish after an application or two. I only use it at night since it has the consistency of Vaseline.

Hello Diane!
I am new to this group and I think so far this group is excellent on information
and possible treatments of seb.derm!
So I read that you would like to share your free samples of prototopic…..I
cant get hold of protopic where I live….so I would really appreciate a sample
and paying 120 us dollars is tooooo much. But I live in Norway…….

Well I`ve sent for the Protopic which should be here any day now, I`ll let you know how I get on.
I`m just gutted at the moment as I`ve now had 4 photoderm sessions to help to get my face back to “normal”. However I don`t seem to be seeing a great benefit due to the seb derm. I have it quite bad and you can permanently see like raised skin on my forehead which I know within a couple of days will flake off, so I shampoo with Nizoral and basically scrub my face, but of course this does get rid of the dry flaky skin but of course leaves my face red and sore for a couple of days.
I`m just hoping that with the Protopic and a few more Photoderm sessions I can get it under control.
I find that the day after drinking alcohol my face is a nightmare so I might have to consider giving it up…
Life is a bummer..
