Introduction

Hi, I am over from the rosacea support board, but since my seb derm
comes and goes more than the rosacea I thought I would sign on here
as well.
I am a post menopausal woman that had perfect skin untill 4 years ago
when menopause really hit full force. First came little flat red
spots about the size of the end of a Q-Tip, these din’t itch, burn or
raise up at all. They would be there for several days and then just
disappear only to return in about 2 weeks. They were only on my nose,
looked awful and lasted about a year. Then the large pustules and
papules started on my nose and chin. My face would get red and stay
that way for a few days. About the same time, the patches of sebderm
started on my nose, eyebrows and around my hair line.
I showed all of the stages to my regular doctor and all he said was "
hormone related " so a year ago during a really bad outbreak of all I
finally got in to see a dermatologist and was diagnosed with sebderm,

rosacea and oral dermatitis. My skin and hair was so oily it looked
like it woud litterly drip at any moment. This aspect is hormones
related, too many androgens, so basically I guess my first doctor was
right after all. The problem was after 2 bouts with breast cancer I
couldn’t use any kind of hormone therapy.
The dermatologist had me first on Metrocream then Noritate, Klaron,
Cleocin T. and at least a half a dozen OTC remedies but nothing
worked for more than a couple of weeks the she would give me
something else to try. Finally I just got tired of all of the skin
rituals so I started my own program. This is what has worked for me.
First I quit putting anything on my face except cool water and washed
with Aveeno bar soap once a day. This helped with the peri-oral
dermatitis within a week. I started taking acidolphus once a day and
chewing digestive enzymes after every meal, stopped eating tomatoes,
citrus fruit and strawberries and this has helped my rosacea at least
90%. I also take Saw Palmetto capsules to control the oil. Don’t do
this if you take BCP. I make a cup of green tea every morning, take
the tea bag out to cool and drink the tea. Then I rub the tea bag all
over my face for a few minutes and then let air dry. I do this again
at night and my seb derm has all but disappeared, I still get an
occasional patch on my nose and when I do I take a q-tip and put just
a dab of Head & Shoulders Intensive Care Shampoo on it and leave it
on overnight.
Sorry this is so long but I wanted everone to know what has worked
for me.

I’m very interested in your regimen. I too have similiar symptoms and have
heard great things about green tea and seb derm. why cant you use this if
your on BCP? How about if your trying to get pregnant in the next several
months? what brand of green tea do you use and for the digestive enzymes,
what are you refering too? Sorry for so many questions but I’m sick of the
pimples and dry skin. I too tried the Cleocin T, noritate, metros and
antibiotics. Im currently taking zinc as Its suppose to help with the acne
    component.

    Thanks

    Hi Everyone,

I just joined the group, in fact, this is the first online group I
have been a part of. I am 24 years old and live in Phoenix, AZ. I
was diagnosed with SD about one year ago with a fairly severe case
that was effecting only my scalp. Since then, my doc and I have come
up with a pretty good treatment plan using Ketaconazole (sp?) shampoo
and DermaSmooth scalp oil that keeps my symptoms to a minimum. In the
past few months, I have begun to experience symptoms in my ears, which
causes pretty frequent ear infections. This is my primary struggle
    right now.

I look forward to getting to know you all a bit better and helping one
another deal with this [insert every negative adjective here] disorder.

I occasionally get sore, crusty ear canals. I can usually
get them under control by painting my ear canals with
pyrithione zinc anti dandruff shampoo, with a Q-Tip, waiting
10 minutes or so, and then rinsing thoroughly in the shower,
using a wet Q-Tip to make sure all the shampoo residue is
rinsed out, completely. If you don’t get rid of all the
shampoo, it will attack your skin and possibly do you
serious harm (like damaging your ear drum). But it is very
effective at killing what causes my scaling problem.
